Project Update

Bathrooms in Tight Spaces

by Amy Feller

Do you have a bathroom in your house that is not bringing you joy? It’s cramped, there’s a tub and no shower, not enough storage, and it's just not very functional. Feller Contracting recently finished up a project reconfiguring a bathroom, giving the homeowners and their teenage daughter the bathroom oasis of their dreams.

Before pictures on top show a claw foot tub that was very charming, but not very practical. It was actually used more often for raising chickens than bubble baths. There was no shower in this bathroom and the ceiling height sloped down at the tub location, so not the ideal spot for a shower head.

We put the custom shower where the old toilet was and swapped out the door for a pocket door to maximize the bathroom footprint. We were able to incorporate a vanity for more storage. The glass enclosure highlights the colorful tile and still makes the bathroom feel spacious. The colors and vibes of this bathroom are more modern and ready to tackle those teenage years in style!

Sloped ceilings always pose a bit of a challenge on layout. Clearance issues are a big concern. Making sure things are up to code with headroom and spacing can get complicated.

At our sandwich shop remodel we previously featured, the upstairs bathroom had some very similar challenges with not one - but 2 walls of sloped ceiling. When you took a “shower” in the tub you basically had your head pushed against the sloped ceiling. In this bathroom, we relocated the toilet and put a neo-angle shower where the previous pedestal sink was located. This allowed for full headroom at the shower head. We used a corner pedestal sink on the other side of the bathroom. The additional sloped wall at the shower posed some serious challenges to finding the right shower door. Dusty crafted a one of a kind corrugated fiberglass and wood enclosure with industrial plumbing piping for the shower rod and accessories. Photos included on Page 3.

Do you have a bathroom that could use a reconfigure? What could you do to transform that space and make it one of your favorite rooms in your house?

Contractor's Corner

Feller Contracting Favorites

by Dusty Feller

For contractor's corner this month, I am sharing some of my favorite things ...

Stihl Professional Backpack Blower - BR 600

ree

This is the ultimate yardwork tool. It blows leaves, snow, dirt and literally anything else you can think of. Sweep your garage in 10 seconds and clear that powdery snow all while wearing a really cool jet pack.

Pro Tip: Eye protection is important especially when it’s windy. Some sweet aviators in the summer and ski goggles in the winter will really complete your look with your jet pack.

Milwaukee Tape Measure

ree

I’ve used a lot of tapes and I like this one the best. The autolock feature with a 12’ reach is very nice! As a super bonus, the black rubber parts double as erasers. Mark away on the walls and floor … you’ve got a built in eraser!

EZ Anchor

ree

All you need is a philips screw driver. I always pilot hole with the screw I’m using in the anchor, but they say you don’t need to do that. Hang a picture, hang a mirror, I carry these babies everywhere.
